Social media image file size checker
Choose the actual raster export and an optional file budget. The checker reads its header and file byte count in your browser, then reports encoded dimensions and both decimal and binary size units. It does not upload, resize or compress the image.
Read the properties in the right units
| Result | Meaning | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Detected header | Supported PNG, JPEG or WebP structure | The filename extension is not used as proof |
| Encoded frame | Width and height read from the supported header | Orientation metadata or later display crops can change presentation |
| Bytes | Actual selected file length | Pixel dimensions alone do not determine the file size |
| Decimal KB | Bytes divided by 1000 | This is the unit of the optional entered budget |
| Binary KiB | Bytes divided by 1024 | A different unit, shown with its own label |
Use the result before publishing
The checker supports files up to 20 MB in decimal bytes. A budget of 1000 KB means 1000000 bytes; it is your chosen threshold, not a stated limit for every social platform.
Header inspection does not decode all pixels, validate every file segment or apply orientation transformations. In particular, an encoded JPEG frame can be presented differently when a viewer applies orientation metadata. Inspect the actual export and destination when framing matters.
If the file exceeds the destination's actual requirements, create an appropriate new export in your editing workflow and inspect that file. The checker itself does not alter image quality or certify that a platform will accept the upload.
Check the intended destination
- Use the exact final export.
- Compare with the destination's current supported requirements.
- Keep size units and pixel dimensions distinct.
- Review the actual displayed crop and image quality.
