Why the first line matters
Instagram shows roughly the first 125 characters of a caption in the feed before the "more" link. The preview under the counter shows what readers see first. Put the point of the post there.
Hashtags
Instagram suggests three to five relevant hashtags per post. The counter shows how many you have used. See the hashtag guide for how to choose them.
A note on counting
Platforms do not all count the same way. X, for example, counts most emoji and Chinese, Japanese and Korean characters as two. Treat the totals here as close guides and leave a small margin near a limit.
