Video aspect ratio and crop preview calculator
Enter the source width and height, then choose a target ratio. The calculator shows the source ratio, largest centred crop and pixels removed. It does not inspect a file or claim that a platform supports every entered dimension.
Interpret the crop
| Result | Meaning | Production decision |
|---|---|---|
| Source ratio | Width and height reduced to their simplest whole-number ratio | Understand the starting shape |
| Crop size | Largest centred rectangle fitting the selected ratio | Check whether the subject remains inside it |
| Pixels removed | Difference between original and crop dimensions | Reframe if important material would be lost |
Cropping is different from resizing
Cropping removes part of the image; resizing changes the pixel dimensions of what remains. A centred crop is a geometry calculation, not a judgement about where the important subject should be placed.
Common ratios are useful production shapes. Upload dimensions, file sizes, safe areas and platform interfaces can change, so check the actual destination before exporting final material. Keep titles, faces and essential details away from any area the chosen crop removes.
Before exporting
- The calculation uses the actual source dimensions.
- The subject and important text fit inside the crop.
- The intended destination's current export requirements are checked separately.
- A test upload or preview confirms the content is readable without unintended cropping.
