Earlier access: fan fundingNot yet
Still needed: 500 subscribers, and either 3,000 watch hours or 3,000,000 Shorts views.
Full programme: ad revenueNot yet
Still needed: 1,000 subscribers, and either 4,000 watch hours or 10,000,000 Shorts views.
The thresholds used
| Tier | Subscribers | Long-form route | Shorts route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Earlier access (fan funding) | 500 | 3000 public watch hours in 12 months | 3 million public Shorts views in 90 days |
| Full programme (ads) | 1000 | 4000 public watch hours in 12 months | 10 million public Shorts views in 90 days |
You need the subscriber number and one of the two routes. The earlier tier also requires three public uploads in the past 90 days and is not offered in every country.
Where to find your numbers
Open YouTube Studio, then Earn. YouTube shows the same counters there, using only watch hours and views it considers valid. That page is the authority; this calculator is a quick way to see the gap.
What this does not check
Reaching the numbers makes you eligible to apply. YouTube then reviews the channel against its monetization policies. Views and watch time that YouTube classes as invalid, including artificial traffic, do not count. See YouTube monetization requirements.
Frequently asked questions
Do Shorts views count toward watch hours?
No. Shorts feed views count only toward the Shorts route, not toward the watch-hour total.
Is reaching the thresholds enough to be monetized?
No. It makes the channel eligible to apply. YouTube then reviews the channel's content and policy compliance.
