YouTube video opening script for a product comparison
Name the decision the comparison helps with, identify the exact items and explain the test conditions before presenting a verdict. The opening should let viewers recognise whether the comparison covers their use case.
0–7 seconds · Decision
Spoken: If you are choosing between [product A] and [product B] for [specific task], this comparison looks at [the deciding question]. Shot: Place both actual versions in frame. Show the task briefly instead of opening with unrelated packaging footage.
7–15 seconds · Scope
Spoken: These are [versions or configurations]. I am comparing [criterion one], [criterion two] and [criterion three]. Shot: Show the relevant settings or configuration. Use readable criterion labels that match the later chapters.
15–24 seconds · Test conditions
Spoken: Both will do [same task] with [shared conditions]. [State the important difference that cannot be controlled.] Shot: Show the test setup, inputs and any genuine limitation. Do not conceal different accessories or settings.
24–32 seconds · Relationship
Spoken: [State any sponsorship, supplied product or other material relationship accurately.] Shot: Keep the disclosure clear in the opening where applicable. Use the actual relationship, not a claim of independence the creator cannot substantiate.
32–40 seconds · Roadmap
Spoken: We will start with [first test], then compare [next decision]. The final section explains which use case each option fits. Shot: Preview the first test and display a simple sequence of the actual sections.
Prepare the shoot
- Record exact model versions and configurations.
- Choose criteria relevant to one viewer decision.
- Write down common conditions and unavoidable differences.
- Prepare an accurate relationship disclosure and evidence for later conclusions.
Adapt the script to the real situation
Use only criteria the video genuinely investigates. A hands-on comparison of handling and dimensions should not promise a durability conclusion without the relevant test.
For an entirely illustrative comparison, label the example in the opening. Keep the title and thumbnail aligned with the test's scope, and revisit the opening after editing so it does not promise a segment that was removed.
