Post caption versus video subtitles
A post caption is the copy accompanying the post. Subtitles or captions associated with video playback follow the spoken or meaningful audio content over time. Text embedded in the image is another production choice. The same word 'caption' can refer to different work, so name the deliverable clearly.
Distinguish the deliverables
| Deliverable | Purpose | Review method |
|---|---|---|
| Post caption | Explain the post's context, practical facts and next action | Read it with the actual image/video and destination |
| Timed subtitles or closed captions | Present the relevant spoken and sound information at the appropriate times | Review words, synchronisation and imported playback |
| Text embedded in the video | Show a label, graphic or other deliberate visual text | Inspect the final crop and reading time in the rendered video |
An original product demonstration example
Post copy could say: '[Product] shown with [actual included contents]. Measurements, options and ordering details are at [destination].' It helps the viewer make a product decision without repeating every spoken sentence.
If the video says 'The main item is inside this box' at the opening and 'The cable is sold separately' later, timed captions should place those actual words at the relevant moments. Leaving the second condition only in a post description can change what someone understands while watching.
Assign each job before editing
| Question | Useful deliverable | Why it is different |
|---|---|---|
| Where do I find the current product options? | Post caption and maintained destination | The information may change independently of the video |
| What did the presenter actually say? | Synchronised captions | Timing and wording matter to the playback |
| Which part is the presenter pointing to? | A useful on-screen label if needed | The label explains a visual relationship |
| Is an accessory included? | Clear speech, relevant timed caption and accurate product information | An essential condition should not disappear from one format |
Name the handoff clearly
- The team knows whether the requested copy is post text, timed captions or embedded video text.
- Timed text belongs to the final edit and preserves meaningful conditions.
- The post's current facts agree with its destination.
- On-screen labels stay readable in the actual crop.
- The final video is reviewed without assuming a total character count proves readable timing.
