Hashtag counter and cleaner
Count the hashtags in a caption, remove duplicates and copy a clean list.
What it does
Paste any text. The tool finds every hashtag, counts them, removes repeats (ignoring upper and lower case) and gives you one clean list to copy. Your text stays in your browser.
How many hashtags to use
Instagram's own guidance is three to five hashtags that describe the post. More is not better: a long block of loosely related tags tells the system less about the post, not more. On TikTok and X, one to three specific tags is the usual practice, and YouTube shows only the first three above a video title.
Choosing them
Pick tags a person would actually search or follow: the subject of the post, the place if it matters, and the community it belongs to. Skip tags that are only popular. The hashtag guide walks through how to choose and test them.
Why duplicates matter
Saved hashtag sets get pasted on top of each other, and the same tag ends up in a caption twice. A repeated tag adds nothing and uses up characters. The caption limit on Instagram is 2200 characters; check the whole caption with the character counter.
Frequently asked questions
How many hashtags should I use on Instagram?
Instagram suggests three to five relevant hashtags per post. Choose ones that describe the post rather than adding as many as possible.
Does it matter if a hashtag is repeated?
A repeated hashtag has no extra effect and uses characters. Remove duplicates before posting.
