Best time to post on Instagram: how to find yours

There is no universal best time to post on Instagram. Use your own Insights to find when your followers are online, then test it in three steps.

Quick answer

The best time to post on Instagram is shortly before your own followers are most active, and that differs for every account. Open your professional dashboard, go to Total followers and scroll to Most active times. Post 30 to 60 minutes before the peak, repeat for two weeks, and compare reach in the first hour.

Why published "best times" disagree

Studies that name a best hour average millions of accounts across time zones and industries. Your audience is not that average. A bakery in Manchester and a gaming channel with viewers in three continents have nothing in common at 9 a.m.

Timing still matters, because Instagram watches how a post performs soon after it is published. A post that goes out while your followers are scrolling gets its first likes and sends sooner.

Find your own active hours

You need a professional account (creator or business). Switching is free in Settings, then Account type and tools.

  1. Open your profile and tap Professional dashboard.
  2. Tap Total followers.
  3. Scroll to Most active times. Switch between hours and days.

Instagram shows this section once the account has at least 100 followers. Below that, use the method in the next section.

Test it properly

  1. Pick the two strongest hours from Most active times.
  2. For two weeks, post similar content at hour A on some days and hour B on others.
  3. For each post, note the accounts reached after one hour and after 24 hours. Both numbers are in the post's insights.
  4. Keep the hour with the better first-hour reach, then test it against a third.

Change one thing at a time. If you change the format and the hour together, you will not know which made the difference.

Practical rules that hold for most accounts

  • Post slightly before the peak, not at it. The post needs time to collect its first interactions.
  • Your followers' time zone matters, not yours. Check Top locations in the same Insights screen.
  • Weekday and weekend patterns usually differ. Check both.
  • Reels are less time-sensitive than photos, because most Reels views come from recommendations over several days.
  • Consistency beats precision. Three posts a week at a decent hour will outperform one post at the perfect hour.

Scheduling

You can schedule posts and Reels inside the Instagram app from Advanced settings on the final share screen, or from Meta Business Suite on desktop. Scheduling lets you post at your audience's peak even when it falls in the middle of your night.

Frequently asked questions

Does posting time still matter with a ranked feed?

Yes, though less than content quality. Early interactions influence how widely a post is shown, and you get them sooner when followers are online.

How many times a week should I post?

Choose a pace you can keep for months. For most small accounts that is three to five feed posts or Reels a week, with Stories on most days.
