# Calculate Instagram profile-visit-to-enquiry conversion For a defined window, divide measured enquiries by observed profile visits and multiply by 100. Call the result an observed ratio unless your measurement genuinely connects those enquiries to the profile visits. ## Fictional worked example "Measure","Example value","Calculation or definition" "Reporting window","The same agreed seven days","Both sets of records use matching dates" "Observed profile visits","200","Owner-visible profile-visit metric, with its definition recorded" "Measured enquiries","4","Events matching the business's agreed enquiry definition" "Observed ratio","2%","4 ÷ 200 × 100" "Interpretation","Four measured enquiries relative to 200 visits","Not proof that all four enquiries were caused by those visits" ## Prepare your own calculation Define the event: Decide whether the enquiry is a direct message, submitted booking request, call or another observable action. Do not mix different definitions between periods. Match the window: Record dates, time zones and any important reporting delays. A visit figure from one month cannot be meaningfully divided into enquiry records from another. Check the denominator: With zero visits, the ratio is undefined. Missing data is not zero. Repeated visitors and the platform's metric definitions may affect the interpretation. Describe uncertainty: Identify enquiry channels that are not recorded and whether enquiries can be attributed to the profile. Keep the observed calculation separate from a causal claim. ## Record alongside the figure - [ ] The enquiry definition and channels included. - [ ] The source and definition of the visit metric. - [ ] The shared dates and relevant time-zone assumptions. - [ ] Known missing records or untracked channels. - [ ] Changes in the offer, audience source or customer destination. ## Compare your own consistent periods There is no universal target ratio established by this example. Small event counts can produce large percentage changes: moving from four to five enquiries is a meaningful extra event but not enough on its own to diagnose a stable trend. If the result raises a practical question, inspect the destination and offer before assuming that more followers will solve it. The linked diagnostic worksheet helps distinguish a broken route, unclear information and a recording gap.
